Cosmin Matei “Heart Athlete’s Corporeal – An Innovative Research Method and Its Limitations”

Abstract

The original paper aimed to present the research methodology of my Ph.D. thesis that started back in 2018. Since its public presentation in Brno 2019, the thesis evolved through two evidence-based studies that researched the implications of embodied cognitive vulnerabilities in actors training. The main objective focuses on the mediator role of psychological inflexibility in the relationship between cognitive distortions and emotional distress as well as between cognitive distortions and depressive symptoms, in a sample composed exclusively by student actors from the Romanian population. The article also presented the results of a two-year pilot test during my MA with an acting class based on a series of exercises and HRV measurements that raised questions regarding the validity of scientific methods used in performing arts due to the lack of medical and scientific knowledge, proper laboratories and trained personnel.
